As soon as we have got used to Facebook having a new name, and making up dances on TikTok are we given an insights into predicted new marketing trends in 2022.

No need to panic though, we have listed the top predictions to help you and your business get on top of the trends.

Prediction 1: video marketing is not optional anymore

This is the big one for 2022 – everyone needs to be using video marketing. Ever thought that Instagram is showing a lot more videos than photos nowadays? You’re not wrong. Not only are companies posting more video content, the Instagram algorithm is prioritising them too! Simply put, if you post a video rather than a photo, you’re likely to get a lot more views.

And it’s not just Instagram! Nearly all social media platforms are putting an emphasis on video content. Short videos that can be shared across platforms like TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram are the way to go if you want to grow your platform in 2022.

If making videos on social media scares you, don’t worry! There are lots of guides about how to make great ones. We particularly like this one from Buffer because it suggests reusing content from your top blog posts to make videos! Yet another reason why blogging is great for your business.

Prediction 2: we’ll be niching down our social media platforms

Top marketers have also predicted that 2022 will be the year that we cut back on some of our social media channels. We think that this is a great trend! It’s easy to get burned out trying to make different content for Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, LinkedIn…you get the idea.

Instead, 64% of social media marketers polled by Hubspot have said that they use 3-5 social media channels. This is a lot more realistic! It’ll allow you to reach different audiences without stretching too far.

It’s also a good idea to look at this trend and think about how you can repurpose content across your 3-5 platforms! E.g. Reels on Instagram can be cross-posted as YouTube shorts.

Prediction 3: mobile optimisation is even more essential

We’ve known for a long while that it’s important for websites to be optimised for mobile – that is, for websites to load quickly and look good when used on tablets and phones.

But it’s more important now than ever! According to Hubspot, more than half of annual online website traffic comes from mobile devices. If your website doesn’t look good on a phone, then you’re probably missing out on a lot of potential customers and sales!

This is especially important when you consider the fact that “46% of adults prefer to use their mobile devices to search for items before purchasing them over their laptops or desktops” (TechJury). If your site doesn’t look good on their phone or tablet, then they’re unlikely to move to their laptops to purchase or inquire further.

Prediction 4: share user-generated content on social media

Another predicted new marketing trend for 2022 is the use of user-generated content (or UGC for short). This is content that is created, published or submitted by users of a brand. For example, if one of your customers posts a photo on Instagram sharing their purchase from you, that is user-generated content.

It’s predicted that brands will be using a lot more of UGC in the months ahead. And it totally makes sense! Sharing a user’s post (with their permission, of course) is a great way to showcase your products or services. Let’s be honest – a customer sharing a glowing review is a lot more compelling than you just saying that a product is good!

If you’re not making the most of UGC, then hop on this trend! It’s so easy and will really make your social media shine.

Prediction 5: shoppable content is key

Finally, the last predicted new marketing trend 2002 that we wanted to talk about is shoppable content. While some customers like to research companies on their phones and then head to the desktop to make a purchase, many others like to simply buy from their phone. Specifically, from social media!

Nowadays, people can shop directly from social media posts or even stories, and this is something that you can easily use as part of your marketing. Setting up a Facebook Shop is simple, and will let you tag specific products or services in posts. So if a potential customer likes the look of one of your posts, they can purchase right then and there.

Your customer will remember how convenient it was to buy from you – and may even do it again!
