With spring comes flowers, more sunshine, and of course, spring cleaning. But spring
cleaning isn’t just for your overfull cupboards – it can also be a great exercise to spring clean your
business.

We’ll explain why, and discuss how you can effectively spring clean the digital tools and
marketing for your business.

Why you should spring clean your business

You may be wondering why we suggest looking at your marketing and digital tools at all!
Well, there are a couple of reasons for this:

  1. Costs – one of the most important things to remember is that if you have a small business,
you shouldn’t be wasting any money on unnecessary subscriptions or websites. You would
be amazed at how much money you can save by taking a look at everything you’ve signed
    up to.
  2. New tools – there are lots of interesting tools that can help you run your business
effectively. But many of these websites and apps do similar things. One app that may have
been amazing six months ago might not be as good as the one you found last month. And
there’s no point having two different apps that will schedule your social media if one does
    everything that you need!
  3. Effectiveness – finally, it’s probably been a while since you looked at your marketing plan.
For example, you may have wanted to use paid ads and simply kept renewing them. This is
an opportunity to look at things like paid ads and assess if they are actually working for you.
If you don’t think they’re worth the effort, then you should stop paying for that service.

How to spring clean your business marketing/digital tools:

There are a couple of ways to make spring cleaning your business a quick and easy process. First of all,
make a list of all the subscriptions or tools that you have – you might want to go through
your emails to see if there are any you might have forgotten about. If you signed up for any
free trials and forgot to cancel them, you can start with these!

Then, try to rank all of these websites and tools in terms of usefulness. Ask yourself: when
was the last time you used it? How much of a difference did it really make? Does any
other website/app have the same function, and which does it better? Be really honest wit
yourself – do you actually need all of these tools? And on the other hand, are there any tools
that have been very useful, and could you upgrade these to make them even moreso?

Finally, go through and cancel all of the websites and subscriptions that you don’t need
to sign up to. If there are any tools that you’d like to upgrade, then go and do that as well.
might also be worth looking at the tools you’re keeping and seeing if there are any cheaper
options (for example, a year’s subscription is often less expensive than renewing a
subscription each month).

This doesn’t have to be a complicated process, and you will be amazed by how much of a
difference it’ll make! Doing this process just once or twice a year will help you to save money
and streamline your marketing.
